"This program handles your usb storage devices, such as usb-keys/pens/disks or digital cameras. It mounts them by default with sufficient permissions for users (of group "users") manipulate data with no hassles. On Gnome DE, the device will magically appear on your desktop, nautilus probes fstab for changes.
It contains a very human readable configuration file with very sane defaults.
The package also contains an utility called "usb-storage-client", it will create a symbolic link in your desktop when the device is plugged and removed when the device is unplugged. To understand how to enable it read the configuration file." (Tiago Congumbreiro)
